Have them make a temporary adjustment to there insurance to allow other drivers. I do it when friends come over from abroad. They may even already have it. Then just pay them the difference. Its cheaper. What is a 30 car insurance policy anyway. Sounds like something a dealership would have.

When I travel abroad I get an international drivers license from AAA and my credit card covers the insurance on my rental and/or any transportation durring my trip. This might even be cheaper depending on how much your friends insurance wants to charge him.

Oh another idea check with your insurance to see if they can temporally cover any car that you drive.

Your friend is using and illegal license unless she is a permanent resident of New Jersey.

If they have insurance coverage on the car(s), then you are covered under their policy as long as you have a valid drivers license.
My friend comes here from Germany every year and uses my car with an international license.
(although she still keeps her NJ license up to date anyway)
She is covered while driving my car, she doesn't need her own policy.
